  About Satpura National Park :-

Lush green carpet, spread over 524 sq. kms of area in  Stapura hill ranges (Mahadeo hills), Satpura National Park lies in Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh, Central India. Adjoining to famous hill station Pachmarhi, Satpura Tiger Reserve, on encompassing, Pachmarhi Wildlife Sanctuary and Bori Wildlife Sanctuary makes 1427 sq. km. area, ideal place for some rare wildlife species and medicinal trees. In the year 1981, Satpura National Park was established with an area of 524 sq. km. Recently in May, 2009 it became in news due to arrival of a new generation of tigers in cradle of Satpura hills. This tiger reserve is still unexplored and virgin offers picturesque natural scenery and some unseen wildlife species with plants having magical medicinal qualities.

It is  spread over different altitudes ranging from 300 mtr. To 1350 mtr. It is still believed to be untouched and unspoiled wildlife sanctuary. Tiger reserve is offers panoramic view of nature at its best with rocky mountain peaks, gorges, gurgling water falls, sparkling stream, dense deep valleys, rivulets etc. This unexplored hill station was first explored by Captain James Forsyth of British Army in 1857. It became a sanatorium for British troops in the Central Provinces of India. During that time Captain James was leading a cavalry regiment that moved from Jabalpur army base  towards Satpura hills in search of freedom fighters. pachmarhi-bee-fall
  Flora & Fauna of Satpura National Park:-

Satpura hills are known for collection of more than 1200 species of plants in which prominent ones are : Sal, Teak, Tendu, Bel (Stone Apple), Mahua (Indian Butter Tree), Aonla, Bamboo, variety of grasses etc. Principal fauna of Satpura National Park are: Tiger, Leopard, Indian Gaur, Wild Boar, Flying squirrel, Mouse deer, Indian giant squirrel, Black buck, Blue bull, Crocodile, Wild dog (Dhole), Four-horned antelope etc. Wildlife in Satpura National Park encompasses 50 species of mammals, more than 30 species of reptiles and 254 species of avi-fauna. Frequently seen bird species are : Honey buzzards, Crested hawk eagles, Crested serpent eagles, Thrushes, Pittas, Paradise flycatchers, Malabar pied hornbills, Grey hornbills, Peafowl, Shahin falcon etc.

  Wildife Safari in Satpura National Park:-

Satpura National Park is one of the most picturesque national park with variety of landscapes, hills, rocky mountains, narrow valley, gorges, water falls, ravines etc. Just like any other National Parks of Madhya Pradesh, wildlife safari in Satpura National Park can be done on 4-wheel driven petrol jeeps. Safari jeeps can be booked through hotels or directly from market of Pachmarhi tourist destination. After completing all legal formalities, jeeps were allowed to get inside Satpura tiger reserve territory. One naturalist is compulsory to travel with each safari jeep.

   How to reach :-

Satpura National Park lies in south of Madhya Pradesh State in India. It is about 200 kms from Bhopal city, 245 kms from Jabalpur city, 255 kms from Nagpur city. Nearest airport are Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj Airport, Jabalpur Dumna Airport, Nagpur Airport. Nearest railway station to reach Satpura National Park is Pipariya railway station at a distance of 42 kms. By road, Satpura tiger reserve is well connected with Jabalpur, Bhopal, Nagpur and Chhindwara cities.

Where to stay

Their are 5 important wildlife resorts in Satpura National Park for accommodation.

Forsyth Lodge: It is best wildlife resort in Satpura Tiger Reserve and is ideally located at village Sarangpur, close to Madai entrance gate of Satpura National Park. It has 12 cottage styled wildlife lodges for luxury accommodation of wildlife lovers. Its name is derived from British Officer who first revealed Satpura Hills to rest of the world when he reached the hills in 1857 in search of Indian Freedom Fighter (Tatya Topa). Resort follows eco-sensitive technologies, water harvesting system and is decorated in local villages style. Resort have its own in-house naturalists also. Due to high rooms-tariff, it is best suitable for highend wildlife lovers especially inbound visitors. Functional since October-2009.

ReniPani Lodge: It is owned and managed by Jehan Numa Palace Hotels of Bhopal city in Madhya Pradesh, Central India. Reni Pani Jungle Lodge offers luxury accommodation in buffer zone of Satpura National Park. They have 12 lodges with 3 distinct structural designs for accommodation at about 10 kms/25mins drive from Satpura Park entrance gate. Resort offers best scenic beauty of Satpura hills and its flora & fauna.

Madai Wildlife Lodge: It is the one of the best suitable accommodation for budget category wildlife lover from India or from rest of the world. It is just 15kms from cut, 4kms before Sohagpur town when we are traveling from Pipariya to Hoshangabad. Its tariff begins from 1500/- (EPAI) onwards which is best affordable rate for Indian visitors. Safari cost (subject to change) for Satpura National Park is 2600/- INR per safari. Safari cost may increase as per change in forest department policy. Location of Madai Wildlife Resort is just on the edge of Denwa River which is ideal and offers best view of National Park across the river in Satpura Hills.

Denwa Backwater Escape: It is the eco-friendly lodge, close to Madhai entrance gate. It falls in luxury category with all required facilities and amenities. Denwa Backwater Escape lodge offers great scenic view of backwater of Tawa Dam in Denwa river.

Government Accommodation Across the denwa river, one can enjoy the comfortable stay in rooms offered by forest department. Their location is best among any other resort or lodge as they are the only accommodation facility in between satpura national park and denwa river. Here one can enjoy the time with some orphan wild animals like blue bull, spotted deer, chital etc. who were feeded by working employees and they remain in & around rooms.
